A Personalized Approach to Therapy
Therapy is not one-size-fits-all
Potential clients typically will ask me, “What is your approach to therapy?” My simple reply is “it depends.” That may sound like a non-answer, but it’s deeply rooted in my belief that therapy is not one-size-fits-all.
I believe in creating an approach that works best for my clients—not trying to fit clients into a prescriptive way of doing therapy. I feel this honors the uniqueness of who you are and what you’re bringing into our work together.
Flexible solutions proven to work
Clients also ask about my theoretical approach. Are theories and models important? Absolutely! In fact, there are many great, evidence-based models of therapy out there, and from experience, they don’t all fit for everyone. So I use an integrative approach, based on training and education in several evidence-based, best practices, to prioritize what fits best for my clients. My work is influenced by training in Systems Theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Gottman Relationship Therapy, and Relational Life Therapy (RLT).
The importance of being fully known
But even more important than specific theories or models, my approach is centered on considering the whole of who you are through a full systems lens and deeply investing in the therapeutic relationship. I want to know you in full context—who you are individually, relationally, and socially—understanding your style, needs, and goals, and collaboratively tailoring an approach that works for specifically for you.
A therapist who’s intentional and down-to-earth
Clients are also curious about my personal style as a therapist. Therapy can be hard, yes, but it can also be an enjoyable process, and I really enjoy showing up and doing the work. No one should ever dread coming to therapy. You will experience me as a warm, accepting, laid-back, and non-judgmental person who prioritizes you. We will work together on achieving your goals. We will discuss hard things, but we will balance that with laughter. We will go at your pace, but I will challenge you when needed. Most of all, you will feel heard, understood, and respected when we are together.
If this sounds like an approach that fits with you, let’s connect and discuss what the next step looks like.
How I’ll Work with You
-
Integrative
Therapy is not one-size-fits-all. I prioritize you in determining which approaches and models will work best for you. All evidence-based and shown to be effective.
-
Collaborative
I’m not the expert of your life. You are. My job is to help you get there—wherever there is. We will figure that out together. I want you fully invested in this work.
-
Holistic
I’m trained to consider the whole of your life. Mind, heart, body, relationships, family of origin. It’s all important. And it’s all connected.
-
Solution-Focused
Insight is important in therapy. But insight without action falls short. I help you understand the “why” and determine the “how” to move forward.
-
Intentional
My favorite word in therapy. What we do is with intent and purpose. It is with intentionality and clarity of purpose that we move forward into a fuller life.
-
Authentic
You will experience my genuineness, warmth, and humor. I will also be honest and direct with you. Above all, you will feel seen, heard, and accepted, as you are.
